With so
many suggestions and comments from past interviews, I stirred
up Celebrity Soup so it is teeming with individual tips and
quips for success from various successful women in the entertainment
industry.
The mix:
JGL:
What was your best decision?
Mary Lou Henner: I left class one day, on my way to
the library, and I went to the audition for Grease
instead.
Jo Beth Williams: Becoming an actress. I went to Brown
and studied Theatre. Candace Bergen: I became a vegetarian
when I was 22 or 23, after that, I could never eat meat again.
Chrissie Hynde: Becoming a vegetarian. Dead meat should
be buried, not eaten.
Gloria
Estefan: Getting married. The best days of my life were
the births of my two children and renewing my wedding vows
with my husband.
JGL:
What was your worst decision?
Jo Beth Williams: Not becoming an actress sooner.
Phyllis Diller: Fang.
JGL:
What do you consider your "big break?"
Marion Ross: "Happy Days." It was the luckiest
thing that happened to me.
Julia Stiles: Save the Last Dance. This movie
deals with a lot of social issues that teen movies don't usually
tackle.
JGL:
Did you have a mentor?
Cher: I loved Bette Davis. I watch All About Eve
once a month. A lifetime of learning should be passed on.
Ater all, Ginger Rogers had to do it in heels and backwards.
Melanie Griffith: We are all goddesses. It is women
who are responsible for changing women.
Diane Ladd: I am a mentor.
Ida Meyers: Shirley Temple was my first mentor. I was
her stand-in.
Cindy Crawford: Spending time with the Leukemia Society
of America and St. Jude's Hospital. These brave kids who are
fighting for their lives really inspired me and gave me plenty
to be thankful for.
JGL:
What is the secret ingredient for your recipe for success?
Whoopi Goldberg: I have no clue. And that's good, because
if I thought I knew, I'd probably mess it all up.
Stella Stevens: Never taking "No" for an
answer. "No" inspires me to double my efforts.
Sharon Stone: Take what you feel in your heart and
make it practically available in the world. Provide a thoughtful
voice.
JGL:
What is your favorite restaurant and why?
Jillian Barberie: I like Early World in Brentwood.
It's the most relaxed celebrity hangout in L.A. They always
accommodate me with my special requests.
Dorothy Lucey: I love to have Junior's Deli deliver
for lunch. Their motto is "You call, we haul."
Gloria Estefan: Lario's on the Beach in Miami. If you
want Cuban food, you're not going to- get better than here.
It's like grandmother's cooking. We also have the best Mojitos
in town - it's nuclear lemonade, Hemmingway's favorite.
Ruta Lee: Le Petite Bistro. The food is always good
and it has the feel of France.
Camryn
Manheim: Crustacean is my very favorite restaurant in
the world. I love their Garlic Noodles and Garlic Crab.
Whoopi Goldberg: Trader Vic's.
JGL:
What do you like to cook at home and why?
Phyllis Diller: I love to cook and could spend the
entire day in the kitchen. Elephant Garlic is wonderful, promise
me you'll try it. I like to use it in my ham stew and serve
it with a Pouilly-Fuisse or a Cabernet Sauvignon.
Doris Roberts: I call the caterer.
Patty Weaver: I serve potatoes with caviar when entertaining
at home. I just fill the small, cooled, spooned out potatoes
with a dollop of sour cream, chopped egg, finely grated onion
and caviar.
Marion Ross: Cheesy Macaroni Bake.
